Shoreview, Minnesota's History

Shoreview was initially settled as part of Rice Creek township in 1850. The first settler in the area to become Shoreview was Socrates A. Thompson, who built a log cabin on Centerville Road just west of Rice Street. The area remained primarily agricultural until the late 1940s when residential development began. In 1957, voters approved the incorporation of Shoreview as a village, and it became a city in 1974. The city's name comes from its many lakes; there are 14 lakes within the city limits, including Sucker Lake, which is entirely within Shoreview boundaries.
